Ben 10 Ultimate Alien Season 2 Episode 4 — "The Big Story"
The stakes turn into a suspenseful, paranoid thriller right in Bellwood in Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. In Season 2 Episode 4, "The Big Story," the perspective shifts away from the main trio to follow Ben's number-one internet fan and blogger, Jimmy Jones, as he stumbles onto a terrifying cosmic conspiracy that no one else believes.
While tracking a mysterious meteor crash inside a local cave, Jimmy is attacked by a bizarre alien plant monster. When he tries to warn Ben, Gwen, and Kevin, they brush him off as an over-imaginative kid. Left completely on his own, Jimmy must use his wits to uncover a stealthy planetary takeover before the entire world is replaced by mindless bio-clones.
Episode Summary
Jimmy Jones is out filming vlog material when he witnesses a meteor crash into a nearby cavern. Exploring the impact site, he encounters a predatory Plant Monster that attacks him. He barely escapes, leaving his camera behind. He quickly goes to report his discovery to Ben, Gwen, and Kevin, who are in the middle of wrapping up a battle with the mercenary Sevenseven. Skeptical of his claims, Ben agrees to check out the cave with Jimmy but finds absolutely nothing inside, concluding that Jimmy just had a bad dream.
Unconvinced, Jimmy monitors local utility data and discovers an astronomical spike in Bellwood's water consumption. Recognizing that plants require water to grow, he sneaks back into the cave at night and watches in horror as Ben willingly submits himself to the plant monster, which seals him inside a pod. The next morning, a duplicate Ben behaves erratically, trying to corner Jimmy at a grocery store while shifting into Humungousaur and chasing him down as Cannonbolt. Jimmy reaches out to Gwen and Kevin for a rescue, only to realize too late that they have also been captured and duplicated by the parasite.
The plant clones drag Jimmy back to the hive, revealing the real trio trapped in organic pods. Remembering that the clone mistakenly claimed to love peanut butter during their grocery encounter, Jimmy realizes the plant duplicates do not inherit biological vulnerabilities—including Ben's actual peanut allergy. Armed only with a bag of peanuts from his pocket, Jimmy breaks his bonds, rescues the real trio, and gives Ben enough time to take back the Ultimatrix. Transforming into Swampfire and evolving into Ultimate Swampfire, Ben launches an explosive counter-offensive to incinerate the core of the alien hive.
Themes & Character Development
- The Unsung Hero: The narrative highlights that heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Without any powers or superpowers, Jimmy's observant nature and deductive skills single-handedly save Earth's greatest protectors.
- Paranoia and Isolation: Pulling inspiration from classic sci-fi thrillers, the episode effectively builds a tense atmosphere where the protagonist realizes his closest friends and guardians have been stealthily compromised.
- The Flaws of Overconfidence: Ben, Gwen, and Kevin's initial dismissal of Jimmy shows their growing hubris, serving as a reminder that they shouldn't let their experience make them blind to unexpected threats.

Fun Facts & Trivia
Did You Know?
- The entire plot of the episode is a direct, stylized homage to the classic 1956 sci-fi horror film Invasion of the Body Snatchers, right down to the organic pods and plant-cloned humans.
- This episode establishes that Ben is severely allergic to peanuts, a biological trait that the plant clones fail to replicate because they only copy basic physical structure and memories, not cellular allergies.
- When Plant Ben transforms into alien forms like Chromastone, they completely lack energy projection and actual genetic powers, showing that the plant organism can only mimic physical shapes.
- This is one of the rare episodes in the entire franchise where the main antagonist is completely defeated because of an ordinary snack food rather than a high-tech Plumber gadget or an ultimate alien power.
- News anchor Will Harangue makes a brief appearance, immediately weaponizing Jimmy's wild, unverified photos on live television to further push his ongoing anti-Ben Tennyson media agenda.
Legacy & Impact
"The Big Story" is celebrated within the fan community for giving a minor supporting character like Jimmy Jones a massive spotlight to shine. It broke the standard formula of the series by showing how terrifying an alien threat looks from the perspective of an ordinary, unpowered human civilian living in Bellwood.
By relying on suspense, clever deduction, and an unexpected everyday resolution, the episode stands out as a unique, highly memorable piece of Ben 10: Ultimate Alien history.
