Ben 10 Season 1 Episode 8 — "The Alliance"
The original Ben 10 animated series built its legacy on high-stakes sci-fi action and rich world-building. The overarching plot thickens considerably in Episode 8, "The Alliance," where a localized street crime collides with a terrifying cosmic threat. When a ruthless gang leader crosses paths with alien technology, Ben faces a brand new breed of villainy.
While attempting to thwart an armored truck robbery, Ben’s battle with a criminal named Joey takes an unexpected turn as Vilgax’s robotic drones crash the party. In the resulting chaos, Grandpa Max is severely injured, raising the emotional stakes higher than ever before. To make matters worse, Joey fuses with the leftover alien technology, becoming a deadly cybernetic weapon under the thrall of the Omnitrix’s greatest seeker.
Episode Summary
What starts as a typical hero gig quickly turns into a nightmare for Ben Tennyson. While fighting off a heavily-armed female biker gang in Albuquerque, Ben handles the threat as Four Arms. However, a sudden ambush by Vilgax’s remaining Mechadroids disrupts the battle. Though Ben manages to scrap the robots, a stray explosion leaves Grandpa Max hospitalized with severe injuries.
Overcome with guilt, Ben watches over Max alongside an equally worried Gwen. Meanwhile, the defeated gang leader, Joey, returns to the battlefield and inadvertently activates the debris. The alien metal wraps around her body, morphing her into the cybernetic mercenary known as Rojo. Through this new connection, Vilgax mentally contacts Rojo, offering her unmatched power in exchange for hunting down the boy with the Omnitrix.
Rojo launches a ruthless assault on the city to draw Ben out. Realizing his family isn't safe even in a hospital, Ben must learn to move past his panic. By utilizing the technopathic capabilities of Upgrade, Ben takes control of Rojo's cybernetic enhancements, severing Vilgax's hold and protecting his family. However, the victory leaves Ben with a chilling realization: his true enemy finally knows he is on Earth.

- Joey's supervillain moniker, "Rojo," means "red" in Spanish, maintaining the color-themed naming convention shared by her gang members, Azul (blue) and Amarillo (yellow).
- Rojo is voiced by legendary voice actress Jennifer Hale, famously recognized for her roles as Commander Shepard in Mass Effect and Sam in Totally Spies!.
- When Ben mistransforms into Heatblast early in the episode, the audio line "Time to go Four Arms!" is accidentally recycled directly from the previous episode, "Kevin 11."
- This stands out as one of the few episodes where Grandpa Max is completely sidelined from the action, forcing Ben and Gwen to rely entirely on each other.
Legacy & Impact
"The Alliance" serves as a pivotal turning point for the first season, effectively shifting the show from a monster-of-the-week formula into a serialized narrative with continuous stakes. By bridging the gap between local street crime and an overarching cosmic threat, it made the world feel infinitely more dangerous for Team Tennyson.
The introduction of Rojo provided the franchise with one of its most memorable cybernetic antagonists, who would reappear later in multiple series iterations. Ultimately, the episode underscores the core ethos of Ben 10: possessing ultimate power comes with ultimate responsibility, especially when the villains decide to hit close to home.
